USPS “Pre-Shipment, awaiting item”: what it means

“Awaiting item” means USPS has the label's details but hasn't physically scanned the package yet.

Why it happens

The sender bought a label, which tells USPS a package is coming. Until a carrier or post office scans the package itself, USPS is still waiting for it. Common reasons: the seller hasn't dropped it off yet, it was left in a collection box or pickup point that hasn't been emptied, or it's an international order whose first US scans come from a shipping partner.

How long is normal

One to two business days for a package mailed in the US. International orders can show this for a week or more while the package is still on its way to the US.

When to do something

If nothing changes after three business days on a US order, ask the seller whether it was actually shipped. More on labels that never move.
