USPS “Shipping Partner Facility” explained
If USPS says your package reached a shipping partner in the US while your shopping agent still shows it in China, nothing is lost. The two are reading different records, and USPS doesn't have the package yet.
What the status means
You'll usually see these lines under the heading USPS Awaiting Item:
- Arrived Shipping Partner Facility
- Departed Shipping Partner Facility
- Picked Up by Shipping Partner
A shipping partner is a private company that collects parcels, flies them to the US in bulk and hands them to USPS for the last stretch to your door. The scans under “USPS Awaiting Item” are sent in by that company, not made by USPS. USPS says so itself: “a delivery date will be provided when USPS receives the package.”
Why it doesn't match your agent's tracking
Shopping agents such as Kakobuy, CNFans, Sugargoo, Superbuy and Mulebuy ship many orders on “lines”: a forwarder takes the parcel out of China and USPS delivers it. Some lines are named after UPS or another express carrier but still end with a USPS number (one that starts with 92, 93 or 94 and has 22 digits).
That gives you two records for one number:
- Your agent's app shows its own warehouse steps (packed, left the warehouse) and whatever the forwarder reports. It often says the carrier hasn't updated yet, and it may only refresh every day or two.
- USPS shows what the shipping partner uploaded. Partners often send these scans in when they book the shipment, before the parcel has flown. That's how a parcel can be “departed shipping partner facility” in Illinois or California while your agent still shows it at the Shenzhen warehouse.
Neither record is wrong. They just cover different parts of the trip.
How long until real USPS scans
The record changes when USPS scans the parcel itself, with a status like USPS in possession of item or Accepted at USPS Regional Facility. USPS gives a delivery date from there, and US delivery usually takes a few more days. Before that, the parcel still has to fly and clear customs, which often takes one to two weeks on agent lines. See how long international shipping really takes and what “in customs” means.
When to ask your agent
- If there's no real USPS scan about three weeks after your agent shipped it, open a ticket with the agent. They deal with the forwarder; USPS can't see a parcel it hasn't received.
- If USPS shows “Awaiting Item” and your agent shows no shipping at all, check that the agent gave you the right number for this parcel.
- Once USPS has it, the usual USPS advice applies: USPS tracking statuses explained.
How Any Day Now shows it
Any Day Now treats shipping-partner scans as Label created and doesn't show a delivery date until USPS has the package. Once real USPS scans arrive, you get the normal steps and an estimate.
