What “in customs” means

“In customs” means your package has reached the destination country and is being checked before it can be delivered.

What happens there

Every international parcel is processed by the customs authority of the country it's going to. They check the declared contents and value, and decide whether any import duty or tax is due. Most small parcels pass through without anything needed from you.

How long it takes

Often a day or two, sometimes longer — especially around holidays or busy shopping periods. Tracking can look frozen during this time because customs doesn't send scans of its own. That's normal.

Will I have to pay anything?

Sometimes. If duties or taxes are due, the delivering carrier or postal service will tell you how to pay, usually before delivery or at your door. The amount depends on the country, the contents and their value.

Watch out for scam messages. Fake texts and emails often claim a package is “held at customs” and ask for a small fee through a link. If you're unsure, don't click — go to the carrier's official website or app yourself, or check the status here.

When to contact someone

If your package has been in customs much longer than the usual delivery window, contact the seller first — they can open an inquiry with the carrier.
