UPS “Exception”: what it means
A UPS exception means something unexpected interrupted the package's normal trip. Most exceptions sort themselves out within a day or two.
Common causes
- Weather or a missed truck or flight.
- A damaged or unreadable label.
- An address problem, like a missing apartment number.
- Nobody available to sign, or a business that was closed.
When you need to act
Read the line under the exception. If it says “action required”, or mentions the address or a missing payment, contact UPS or the sender. If it's about weather or a delay, there's nothing to do but wait.
How much later it'll be
Usually one to two business days. UPS updates the delivery date once it knows.
